It is the mission of Columbia Pacific Maritime to provide approved
courses for Merchant Mariner Credentials (MMC) issued for the deck
department of uninspected vessels and inspected vessels of less than 200
    tons.

The Owner, Dennis Degner

I began my sailing career working as a deckhand on my father's
commercial fishing vessel in 1964. In 1974 I purchased my first fishing
vessel in Texas and sailed it through the Panama Canal to the Oregon
coast. In 1992 I retired from commercial fishing and began my career in
education teaching USCG approved courses at the community college level
while continuing to sail as Master or Mate of commercial vessel during the
summer breaks. In 2006 I retired from the community college system to
begin my private school, Columbia Pacific Maritime, here in Portland,
    Oregon.

"I use my life experiences to train professional mariners. This is not a
job, this is what I do and it defines who I am, because I am a
Professional Mariner who enjoys helping others achieve their professional
    maritime training needs."

I hold Merchant Mariner Credentials (MMC) as Master 500 ton oceans,
Mate 1600 ton inland and Able Seaman unlimited.

The School

Columbia Pacific Maritime is located in the basement of my home in NE
Portland, Oregon. I also have classroom space located near NE 131st and
    Division in Portland.

My success rate is nearly 100% and I have a 98% success rate getting
students through the USCG approved courses within the advertised
course schedule. This success rate is possible because the courses are
well organized and presented in a small group environment that
encourages open discussion and active student participation. Students
having trouble in any subject area are provided with tutoring and
extended course hours at no additional charge.
