COAST GUARD TERMINATES VESSEL’S VOYAGE

Filed under: Government Press Releases — Dennis @ 11:19 pm

YAQUINA BAY, Ore. - The Coast Guard terminated the voyage of a 66-foot fishing vessel today near Yaquina Bay, Ore.

A boarding team from the Coast Guard Cutter Orcas, homeported in Coos Bay, Ore., terminated the voyage of the fishing vessel Helen McColl after finding that the rudder packing was leaking at a rate of five gallons a minute.

Last week, the Helen McColl’s voyage was terminated after failing to meet safety requirements.
The vessel is restricted from operating until it fixes all its discrepancies.

The Coast Guard strictly enforces boating safety laws and regulations and recommends that all commercial and recreational boaters comply with established requirements.

A free Commercial Fishing Vessel Safety Exam can be obtained through any Fishing Vessel Safety Coordinator located throughout Washington and Oregon.  In Washington call 206-217-6208 and in Oregon call 503-240-9337 to set up an exam.
