I need to know which USCG license is needed to be able to guide on
my home rivers here in southern Oregon as well as the lower columbia for summer sturgeon.

Answer:

The minimum USCG license you need to guide on Oregon inland waters is a Limited OUPV for Portland MSO (sometimes called a limited scope license). I offer a 16-hour (2 day) course that satisfies the USCG examination requirements for this license. The cost of this course is $300 and I offer it Sunday through Monday twice a month.

To include authority to guide on the Columbia River you will also need to complete a 24-hour (3 day) Rules of the Road course. The cost of this course is $400 and I offer it Thursday through Saturday twice a month.

These two course can be taken individually or scheduled as consecutive courses over a 5 day period, Thursday through Monday and will satisfy the USCG examination requirements for a Limited OUPV license valid to carry passenger for hire on all inland waters of Oregon, Southern Washington and Souther Idaho.

In addition to completing these course you will need to complete a USCG application package for the license and register with the Oregon State Marine Board as a fishing guide.
